TOON BOOM HARMONY PRO SOFTWARE
Most such tablets have a software switch to turn off touch so you can draw without making extraneous marks or accidentally flipping between programs. This is a problem in all tablets which advertise pen and touch sensitivity. Palm rejection is very good, but not perfect.

For instance, pencils seem to behave very well, while pens develop an unacceptable jitter.īottom line: I am keeping wintab drivers active in the program for the immediate future. Some tools seem to work very well without wintab, while others develop strange artifacts.
This was the surprise of my recent retesting. However, recent updates to the machine from Microsoft have turned this into a better experience.

On a new Surface Pro 3, this was a very unsatisfactory experience. Toon Boom products allow you to turn off the wintab drivers in the preferences section of the programs. It is not absolute and seems to be dependent on the use of wintab drivers. There is also a phenomenon where pressure sensitivity disappears if you adjust the screen resolution. There is a tool coming soon, according to press reports, which will adjust this curve. For me, this is not a big deal, but it may matter to others. The real issue is the pressure sensitivity curve, which is definitely less optimal in my hands with the N-trig pen.
Pressure sensitivity comments have focused on the fewer increments of pressure for N-trig compared to Wacom.

You still must install the wintab drivers from the N-trig site, but this is easy. Wintab drivers do not come pre-installed on the Surface Pro 3. Pressure sensitivity was poor and “wintab” drivers usually did not exist. In previous years, combining N-trig with art software was a terrible experience. Battery life is great for an x86 powered machine of such low weight. The i7 hardware is powerful, though it lacks a dedicated graphics card, and the total weight of the device is amazingly low. Meanwhile, the screen is very high resolution, though this can be easily dialed down to a lower resolution screen. Microsoft insisted this version was going to be dramatically different. N-trig pens have traditionally not done well as artist tools. Those of us familiar with tablets and tablet PC’s were very unhappy with the use of the N-trig pen compared to the Wacom pen.
TOON BOOM HARMONY PRO WINDOWS 8.1
Surface Pro 3 runs Windows 8.1 and has both a touch and an N-trig pen interface. Since my results here are mostly good, I doubt there will be dramatic changes to come. Microsoft had obviously updated some drivers in just the past two weeks. My results for compatibility testing came out much improved. The short answer to the question is: Yes, with some qualifications.Ī few days ago, I had this great blog post ready to go and then I did some last minute experimenting.
Three weeks ago, my i7 Surface Pro 3 arrived from the online Microsoft store. But if anyone can share a better solution, please kindly let me and everyone know :< Because my personal solution is a bit of a hassle tbh lol.The moment Microsoft announced the Surface Pro 3, many artists with Toon Boom asked the same question: Will Surface Pro 3 work with Toon Boom Software? This is a solution that I found working for me. After I opened the SBP20 file on my main display, I drag the program's window on to my drawing display.ģ) After saving and closing the file, I will have to turn off my drawing display and go back to "show display 1 only" from being "extended display." And I have to repeat step 1-2 in order to re-open the file again.Ĭause what happens is that, when I open the SBP20 file with my drawing display open, it keeps on crashing. I usually choose the extend display option when using two monitors. Also make sure the file doesn't have any duplicate folder with the exact same file name.Ģ) After that, I open my drawing display. Try deleting that first then open the file again on your main display. Every time it crashes a new file appears with the name Storyboard_ Let's say the name of my file is Storyboard_SBP20. It should be a normal monitor and not a drawing display. My huion drivers are up to date but SBP20 still crashes when I open a file.ġ) I only have my main display open at first and this is where I open the SBP20 file. Apparently huion is not in the recommended drawing tablet support in Toon Boom's website. I'm guessing my drawing display (Huion) could be the problem. However, I did found a solution that I want to share. So I use two monitors: Asus VG27AQL1A (Main Display) and the Huion Kamvas 24 Pro (Drawing Display). I don't think my hardware is the reason why the program keeps on crashing since it's above the recommended specs from their website.
I 'm still using the trial version tho so I'm not sure if that affects why I keep on crashing when opening a file. Hello! I made an account just for this cause I'm very frustrated with SBP20.
